Module 1 of 6
Introduction to Automation
Module Overview
Welcome to the Introduction to Automation module — your first step toward reclaiming hours of your week and eliminating the repetitive tasks that drain your energy and productivity. In this module, you'll discover what automation truly means in a modern work context, why it has become an essential skill for professionals across every industry, and how even beginners can start implementing powerful time-saving systems without writing a single line of code. We'll walk you through the foundational concepts that every automation practitioner needs to understand: recognizing which tasks are worth automating, developing the strategic mindset that separates efficient workers from overwhelmed ones, and getting a clear picture of the most popular tools available today. By the end of this module, you won't just understand automation theoretically — you'll be able to look at your own daily workflow and immediately spot opportunities to save time. This module is designed with absolute beginners in mind. No prior technical experience is required. Whether you're a freelancer, a small business owner, a corporate employee, or a student, the principles covered here are universally applicable. Get ready to shift the way you think about work forever — because once you see automation, you simply can't unsee it.

Hands-on Activities
- 1Conduct a 'Task Audit': Track every task you perform over one full workday, noting how long each takes and how often it repeats. At the end of the day, highlight any task done more than once or that follows a predictable pattern — these are your first automation candidates.
- 2Create an Automation Opportunity Map: Using a simple spreadsheet or even pen and paper, list your top 10 most time-consuming weekly tasks. Score each one on two factors (1–5): Repetitiveness and Time Cost. Multiply the scores to prioritize which tasks to automate first.
- 3Tool Exploration Challenge: Sign up for free accounts on Zapier, Make (formerly Integromat), and Microsoft Power Automate. Spend 15 minutes exploring each platform's template library and identify one pre-built automation template on each platform that could immediately benefit your workflow. Write a brief 3-sentence description of what each template does.
